Interlibrary Loan

Defined:

A method of borrowing books, magazine articles or other library materials that our library does not own.  We  have access to libraries around the state and nation.

Who can request ILL’s:

Due to State Library funding, we only accept interlibrary loan requests from patrons for whom  we are their HOME LIBRARY.  This is your HOME library if you live within the city limits of Pocatello and hold a current Marshall Public Library card.  You may also choose to make us your HOME library if you live outside of the city limits by paying a yearly fee.

Types of items we can request:

bulletMagazine articles
bulletNewspapers or Magazines on microfilm
bulletVideos, Audio Tapes and CD’s *( many libraries will not loan audiovisual)*

Information needed for requests:

bulletYour name, current mailing address, and home/work telephone numbers.
bulletYour current Marshall Public Library card number (last seven digits).
bulletFor Books: author, title, date of publication and any other helpful information, such as where you heard about the book.
bulletFor Magazines/articles:  author, article title, periodical title; volume, number, date, and page of article, as well as the maximum cost you are willing to pay for photocopies.

How long it takes

Your request will be processed as soon as possible, and generally will be available within two weeks.  We cannot, however, guarantee that we will be able to find the item you want.  We also cannot guarantee a delivery date.

Fees:

bulletBASIC SEARCH:  Includes Horizon - FREE.  However, the lending library may require postage reimbursement. 
bulletEXTENDED SEARCH:  available for $5.00 per title, due when item arrives.
bulletPeriodical photocopies: cost varies dependant on lending library policy.
bulletOverdue fines:  $.25/day- no grace period.
bulletLost ILL:  You are responsible for paying all costs of replacement. 

Other things to note:

bulletYou may request up to 3 items at a time.
bulletCheck-out time is 2 weeks with No Renewals.
bulletLibraries often won’t lend items that were published less than a year ago.  You may recommend that we purchase items for our collection by filling out a Book Suggestion card turning it in at the Circulation Desk.

Fees:  No charge to borrowing libraries

What we lend:  Books (except Reference items),  Periodicals (current 3 years that circulate), CD's, Audio Tapes, Videocassettes.   You can check our holdings through our on-line catalog.

We also have the Idaho State Journal on microfilm: Jan. 12, 1895 (Pocatello Tribune) to present.  These do NOT circulate, however photocopies of select pages can be made.

Loan Period:  Books and Periodicals- 4 weeks, Audio- 2 weeks, Video- 1 week.  Renewals OK.

Turn around time:

We try to process requests within 24 hours of receipt and send by U.S. mail at Library Rate.
