The Friends of the Marshall Public Library are announcing an exciting new community project: NICKEL MANIA! The goal of this project is to raise funds to purchase a bookmobile that will reach the children of our community, many of whom are unable to access the library. While the Marshall Public Library currently has a small “book wagon,” that travels to parks, the Farmers’ Market, and some neighborhoods, its open-air design does not work well in the winter months. The proposed approximately 24’ bookmobile will provide the community with information, education, and recreational reading. The bookmobile will open doors to a better world for many children and adults. Hundreds of community women will be taking jars provided by Heinz Foods out into our schools and businesses to collect the donations on October 23, 24, and 25, 2008. Donations will also be accepted at the Marshall Public Library. We are asking all community members to donate a nickel for each year of their age, but of course, larger donations are always welcome. Southeast Furniture has graciously donated a book case to be raffled on October 25, and which is on display at the library. The tickets will be $5.00, or 100 nickels, each.
